OUR EMOTIONS AND COPING

In cognitive behavior therapy we increase our knowledge of emotions as part of the process of learning to cope with our emotions. Our first step is to define and understand our emotions.

The most critical vocabulary your child can acquire is the one to express his/her emotions. The next couple of weeks we will use calm, worried/anxious, satisfied and frustrated as an example for developing a coping tool box for your whole family.

  • defining emotions

  • listing emotions and labeling emotions positive/negative

  • identify how the expression of the emotion impacts tone of voice, facial and body expressions

  • assist the child or teen to identify the expression of the emotion within him or herself. And identify the expression of emotion in others.

  • learn the advantages and disadvantages of emotions and the different levels of expression
